Once a website build is complete and ready for go-live, we train our clients to help them take control of their new site. We teach them how to add, edit and publish content, giving them the tools to independently manage their marketing activity.

Here at Wider, sourcing high quality photography is an integral part of what we do. Over recent years, we’ve seen a growing number of websites house a diverse range of stock photography aimed at consumers and businesses (with no tacky businessmen in suits shaking hands in sight). Some require a monthly subscription but there are also plenty of sites where you can download, copy and use photos free of charge, for both personal and commercial purposes.

Today, we’re going to share some of the best free stock photography sites we’ve come across.

1. Pexels

Pexels provides high quality and completely free stock photos licensed under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license. All their photos are tagged, which makes them easily searchable, they can all be used for commercial use and no attribution is required.

2. Pixabay

Pixabay offers over a million photos, illustrations, vector graphics and videos which can all be used free of charge in return for a quick registration on the site.

3. Stocksnap

Stocksnap shares beautiful high-resolution photos all clearly displayed and easily searchable in 150 categories. To show their appreciation to the photographers who show their work for free, Stocksnap identifies the author of each photograph which links back to their profile.

4. Good Free Photos

Good free photos share a library of over 22,000 high-resolution free photos, vector images and clipart for free. Attribution to the author is not compulsory but is noted and appreciated.

5. Life of Pix

Life of Pix offers free photography for personal and community use with new photos being added all the time. They have recently partnered with Adobe Stock which allows users to take advantage of special offer downloads.

6. Burst

Burst was created by Shopify with the intention to help entrepreneurs build their brand and business. There are currently over 1000 royalty-free images on the site which can be used for both personal and commercial use.

The best thing about these sites is they host photographs which are copyright-free. This means there are no restrictions and you have the freedom to edit and use as you see fit both personally and commercially. Attribution to the author is not compulsory, however some sites will kindly ask you to credit the photographer as good practice.

So if you’re looking to create some engaging graphics for your blog, which of course can then be repurposed for social media, advertising and website landing pages, why not get started with the links above and say good bye to tacky business men in suits forever?
